The drafting process was essentially important for our group because we encountered difficulties whilst creating our ancillary products. This was due to the lack of conventions within our music advert. The drafting has helped us to figure where our mistakes were and allowing us to make changes to improve our ancillary products to compliment our music video.
The Drafts:
1.
Feedback & Areas to improve:
All the key conventions was included.
The typography and the colour of the text wasn't exactly relating to the genre.
This was beneficial as we can know change the font and adapt a better colour where the text can be seen easier.
2.
Feedback & Areas to improve:
As our last feedback from draft 1 was to change the font and choose a better colour that can be seen easier, we have adapted these feedback onto our second draft as shown above, the text can now be seen clearer and easier to relate to the genre as well as having good use of artist image.
Another feedback that we have received was that we are missing the release date. This was very beneficial as release date is one of the key information that needed to be in our music advert so that the audience know when the debut album will be release for purchase. We are now able to include the release date within our next draft.
Conclusion
- For our final product, we had to ensure to include all key information and all conventions of a music advert into ours to sell out artist as well as complimenting all the other products that relates to the genre well. For my final product, I had to ensure to include the key detail such as the release date.
- The drafting process was essentially important for our group because we encountered some difficulties whilst creating our ancillary products. This was due to the group being unorganised and lack of understanding in terms of knowing the conventions of digipak and music advert within the R&N genre. The drafting has helped us to figure where our mistakes were plus allowing us to make changes to improve our ancillary products as well as reflecting on the drafts that we made. From this, we have figured out what aspects that needed improvement on to make a successful digipak that look professional to compliment our artist image and music video.
The Drafts:
1.
Feedback & Areas to improve:
What was good about our first draft is that the conventions are used correctly and clear star image.
However, some feedback for us to improve our draft are the typography. It shouldn't be on the artist's face plus there isn't enough space on the side.
The typography and the other products don't match and the colour of the typography needs to be changed.
2.
Feedback & Areas to improve:
What was good about our second draft is the typography has improved to be placed in a better position. The images work well together.
There is consistency and the track list picture compliment the product well plus good effect on the typography gradually fading away.
However, there some more feedback that we received for us to improve our digipak such as the typography on the CD, the inside cover image needs to be changed to be more consistent with the other images. Again the typography needs to be changed.
Conclusion
- For our final product, we needed to ensure that our digipak includes all of the conventional features as well as enhancing star image. Consistency needs to be shown in relation to other products to match up with the overall themes of our production.

have created a questionnaire in the purpose of finding out more information;
interest and background of my target audience in order to create a successful
music video that enhance star image and ‘Male Gaze’ in a sensible way plus
making sure to include as much conventional features of the hip-hop and neo
soul music genre as possible to meets the audience needs and appeals to
nationwide audiences.
What
feedback did you gets? Identify 4 key questions and comment on the results.
1)Do
you like seeing dancing in this music video?
-This
graph shows that a very large amount of people prefer to have dancing involve
in a music video. This was very beneficial as it is an advantage to my music
video because I am also a dancer so I could easily direct and add choreography
into my music video to meet the audience needs.
2)What
age do you think the artist should be?
-This
graph shows that most people tend to prefer the male artist to be around the
age of 20-31. This was very beneficial as I now know who to use to star in
music video in order to meet the audience’s expectations.
3)What
type of location do you think would be suitable for this music video and state
why?
Kanye, age 19: ‘’For
an urban type of music video, I think outdoor such as Central London or
Piccadilly would be the perfect place to film’’.
Kim, age 18: ‘’I
think indoor will look nice based on the narrative that’s going to be portrayed
in this music video. In the bedroom maybe?’’

because there are so much you can do plus you can save time and money’’

me I think outdoor would be perfect for a music video because you can film
almost everything plus find a good background and you’re good to go’’
4)What type of outfit do you think the male artist
should wear?
- This graph shows that the viewers prefer the artist to dress
in smart/fancy suit due to most people that I've asked prefer that option on
top of others that was provided. This was beneficial, as I can now know how to
combine the street look with the fancy smart style together to present my
artist in a unique way to still attract a wide audience.
QUESTIONNAIRE:
How
has this helped me make decisions?
-
The feedback that I received from my questionnaire has allowed me to be more
aware of the conventions that should be included in my music video. From this,
I can easily identify what satisfies the audience and what they prefer to see
to hopefully achieve most of the expectations and demands.
Why
did you put your video on YouTube?
-YouTube
is known as the world’s largest video-sharing platform where they attract an
international scale of audiences. I felt like this was the best platform to
upload my music video to because it could be shared for the world to see and to
get as many views and critical feedback as possible. Moreover, YouTube appeals
to all age groups plus easy to access, this allows the audience to watch my
music video at any time and any place.
2 Positive comments:
''Amaizing video editing is great used very well''
''Really like the way you guys portray your two artists, very conventional to the RnB genre. I was not expecting the female to sing, a very pleasant surprise. The scenes in the bedroom/shower were really realistic. Could defo see the relationship between the two.''
1 Negative comment:
''The lip syncing was a little bit off at some parts of the video, but overall, love it !''
What
did you learn from this audience feedback in terms of whether you created a
conventional and successful music video?
-The
feedback that we received from our audience was very beneficial as we were able
to please the audience through the original and clear narrative and excellent
use of star image, star performance and characters representation. The audience
easily understood the themes of love and relationship through the conventional
features that highlighted the genre of the music video. However, there are some
aspects that we could have improved on such as the variety of cinematography
from different angles and shot sizes. In addition, the feedback that we
received was successful.
Why
did you put your work on Facebook?
- Facebook is known as one of the world's largest social network site that's being used from people all around the world. We have chosen this platform to upload our video to showcase our work to our friends and family. We also shared the video 'public' so people that aren't our friends on Facebook could also see and comment. This was very beneficial as Facebook is another huge platform that we have used to promote our work.
Why
did you hold a focus group?
- These are images of a focus group of sixth form students who observed my music video. This was very beneficial as they are a part of our target audience and each group member has commented and discussed on our music video.
SOUNCLOUD
Conclusion
- To conclude, as I have analysed a range of media formats that had been used to promote my music video, this was very beneficial as I have gained many useful feedback and comments from many people who have seen my work. These feedback that I have collected shows that my music has achieved all the conventional features of the R&B genre to meet the audience's expectations and our narrative as well as star appeal and representation was easily understood. The feedback I received for music video was highly positive, however, there are aspects that we could have been improved. Overall, I believe that I had represented the genre well in terms of creating a successful music video that compliment it's genre as well as both of the artists. All the feedback that I have received was very beneficial as if I could create another music video, I would be more experienced and would plan, build on these elements with more quality and detail to enhance the over products.
